(HPDI) has become a powerful road and bridge engineering consultancy firm in China with 10 professional departments including that of bridge, road, municipal works and international projects design, and with 572 permanent multi-disciplinary staff of whom 32% possessing a senior professional title. In addition, HPDI boasts a team of experienced engineers, specialists and experts led by 2 national level Engineering Survey and Design Masters-Mr. WANG Jianyao and Mr. MENG Fanchao, 1 winner of the "Grand Bridge Prize of the MAO Yisheng Awards for Science and Technology Progress", 3 Young Talent Prizes of the above Awards apart from 28 engineering experts who have each been awarded a Government Special Subsidy for his/hers unique achievements. Meanwhile, HPDI possesses “Grade A Certificate of Highway Engineering Sector for the Design and Consultancy of Major Road, Extra-long Bridge/Tunnel and Traffic Engineering Projects”, “Grade A Certificate for Comprehensive Engineering Survey”, “Grade A Certificate of Municipal Utility Engineering Sector for the Design of Urban Roads, Bridges and Tunnels”, “Grade A Certificate for Hydrogeological and Engineering Geological Survey for Highway Works”, “Grade A Certificate for Construction Supervision of Road and Bridge Projects” as well as “Grade B Certificate for Architectural Engineering Design”. This Firm was approved by MOFERT for undertaking overseas projects and international operations in 1992, and was granted the ISO-9001 Quality System Certification in 2001. As one of the strongest design and consulting agencies in China, the Firm has been entrusted by the Ministry of Transportation with such high-tech operations and multi-disciplinary assignments as highlighted below:

● Development of national/sectoral standards, technical specifications and typical drawings for highway and bridge design and construction projects;

● 170 master plans and feasibility studies for major road links and transport networks of paramount importance;
● Dozens of study assignments and programs entrusted by the World Bank (IBRD), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and UNDP;
● Some 100 highway design standards, specifications, engineering quotas, cost estimates, EIA reports, and technical guidelines; as well
● as another 100 sets of standard drawings for road/bridge design;
● Authorized by the Ministry of Transportation, completion of design review and proof check for some 300 arterial road projects;
● Design of hundreds of independent and extra-large bridge of various structural types in China and other countries including some 50 excessively long bridges across the Yangtze River, Yellow River and sea bays/gulfs;
● Completing survey and design of overseas and domestic roads of different classes in a cumulative length of 80,000 kilometers;
● Independently or jointly developing of dozens of CAD software, budget preparation software and data banks for road/bridge design.

The above projects and assignments have been highly commended by both local and international clients and won some 200 national, provincial and ministrial awards for design merits and/or science, technology progress since 1978 including such gold and silver prizewinning projects and the China ZHAN Tianyou Awards-winning projects as the Humen Bridge and Luoxi Bridge in Guangdong Province, the Tongling Yangtze River Bridge in Anhui Province, the Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge and Nanjing No.2 Yangtze River Bridge in Jiangsu Province, the Junshan Yangtze River Bridge in Hubei Province, and the MOC Automobile Proving Grounds.

The Tenth Five-year Plan from 2001 to 2005 saw HPDI's vigorous involvement in survey and design of numerous monumental transport infrastructure projects such as:

● The Sutong Yangtze Bridge: the world’s largest span cable-stayed bridge;
● The Hangzhou Gulf Bridge: the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge;
● The Xihoumen Bridge in Zhoushan: the world’s second largest span suspension bridge;
● Other Megastructures including the Yangluo Bridge in Wuhan, the Shenzhen Bay Bridge in Guangdong, the Balinghe Valley Bridge in Guizhou, the Nanjing No.4 Yangtze River Bridge in Jiangsu, and the Qingdao Gulf Bridge in Shandong; and
● Major Highway Projects including Changchun-Shenzen Expressway, Taiyuan-Macao Expressway, Tianjin-Shanwei Expressway as well as Erenhot-Guangzhou Expressway.
